Suicide Awareness and Prevention at City Hall
The City of Flint is bringing the community together for three days dedicated to suicide awareness, prevention, education and connection, Sept. 24–26, 2026, at Flint City Hall.
Suicide prevention is a community effort. Knowing how to recognize when someone may be struggling, how to start a conversation and where to turn for help can make a meaningful difference. Throughout the three-day initiative, residents will have opportunities to learn, connect with resources and participate in conversations focused on mental health and supporting one another.
Thursday, Sept. 24 | Suicide Awareness Training
The three-day initiative begins with an in-depth Suicide Awareness Training from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Dome at Flint City Hall.
Presented by SOUL Shop, a program of Genesee Health System (GHS), the training will provide participants with information and practical tools to recognize warning signs, respond to someone who may be struggling and help connect people with appropriate support.
The eight-hour training is open to the public and is designed to help everyday community members feel better prepared to have conversations that could make a difference in someone’s life.

You Don’t Have to Be a Mental Health Professional to Make a Difference
Sometimes helping begins with simply recognizing that something has changed, asking someone how they are doing and knowing where to connect them with additional support. Suicide prevention is a community effort.
