At their annual organizational meeting on January 7, the Genesee County Commission selected Dale Weighill, who represents a district that includes Clayton Township, the City of Flushing, Flushing Township, the City of Swartz Creek, and a portion of Flint Township, as its new chair.
The vote appoint Weighill, who succeeds Delrico Loyd in the role, was 6-3 along party lines. Republican Gary Goetzinger was selected as Vice Chair, succeeding Shaun Shumaker in that role.

“I wanted to thank everyone for their professionalism, and the excellence they brought to work every day,” Loyd said in a news release. “The progress of this county is built on their labor, their consistency and their commitment to the residents of Genesee County. I am deeply appreciative of that.”
In remarks during the meeting, Weighill thanked Loyd and Shumaker for their leadership the previous year, and noted that it was important for him last year and this year that the County Commission have a bipartisan leadership structure with a Democrat and Republican represented in the chair and vice chair positions.
