Scholars on Tap: Mind Full or Mindful? Strategies for Presence in the Modern Classroom
Dr. Jennifer Fisch-Ferguson, director of the Center for Teaching and Learning at Mott Community College, will present “Mind Full or Mindful? Strategies for Presence in the Modern Classroom” at 5:30 p.m. Monday, March 9, 2026, at Queens’ Provisions, 421 Garland St. in Flint.
The talk will explore the challenges of modern attention spans and the impact of an “always-on” culture in today’s classrooms. Fisch-Ferguson will discuss how mindfulness can move beyond a wellness trend to serve as a rigorous, evidence-based approach to strengthening executive function, emotional regulation and critical thinking skills. The presentation will also introduce practical strategies, including sensory grounding techniques and the intentional use of silence, to help recalibrate focus without disrupting academic flow.
Scholars on Tap is a speaker series hosted by Kettering University, Michigan State University, the University of Michigan-Flint, and Mott Community College. The series brings faculty experts into a casual setting for accessible, thought-provoking talks across a range of topics.
