Scholars on Tap: From Pastimes to Professions: How Hobbies Shape STEM Careers,

April 13 @ 5:30 pm

A new installment of the “Scholars on Tap” series is coming to Flint on April 13, 2026, featuring a talk by Dr. Diane Peters of Kettering University.

Titled “From Pastimes to Professions: How Hobbies Shape STEM Careers,” the talk will explore how everyday hobbies—such as crafting, gaming, and music—help build critical skills like problem-solving, spatial reasoning, and persistence that are essential in science and engineering fields.

The event will take place at Tenacity Brewing at 5:30 p.m. Organizers say the session will highlight research and personal stories showing how creative and hands-on activities can influence STEM pathways for students, educators, and professionals alike.

“Scholars on Tap” is a collaborative speaker series designed to bring accessible, engaging academic discussions into a casual community setting.
