Help Plant Native Trees in Pierce Park

October 24 @ 10:00 am
This Saturday, 10-24-26, 10 am
Meet at Pierce Park, 2302 Brookside, in the pavilion parking lot.
Help us welcome our newest neighborhood residents: Shagbark Hickory, Alternate Leaf Dogwood, Native Red Mulberry, Sassafras, Witch Hazel, White Birch, Pussywillow and Musclewood!
Volunteers are needed to plant native trees, assemble tree tubes and install tree tubes.
Please bring gloves and wear boots or shoes.
We’ll be working in various locations in the park
For the past couple of weeks we have been scouting the best places to plant the trees according to each species’ preference. We have a variety of jobs for volunteers:
Planting: We use a special tree planting-tool called a dibble.
Coco rings: Each little tree is protected from encroaching grass and weeds with a coco ring, which also holds moisture in the tree tube.
Tubing: We assemble and install tree tubes to protect the young trees from deer and rabbits. The tree tubes also act as mini-greenhouses to help the young plants thrive.
Staking: We secure tree tubes with tree stakes.
We will plant about 175 trees and it should take 2-3 hours.
We’d love for you to join us in growing an urban forest.
