Free Hearing and Vision Screenings for Homeschooled and Online Learning Students

Families who homeschool their children or participate in online learning programs are invited to take advantage of free hearing and vision screenings offered by the Genesee County Health Department. The screenings help identify potential hearing or vision issues that could impact a student’s learning, communication, and overall social development. In Michigan, students who attend traditional school-based settings receive hearing and/or vision screenings during the school year at their school buildings. The Genesee County Health Department is committed to ensuring that all students, including those enrolled in homeschool or virtual learning programs have access to the same screenings.

Both hearing and vision screenings are quick, non-invasive, and conducted by trained Health Department staff. If a potential concern is identified, parents will receive information about recommended follow-up with their healthcare or eye care provider.

Genesee County Health Department staff will be available to provide hearing and vision screenings for students ages 3 and up on the following dates and times:

• Tuesday, July 21, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
• Wednesday, July 29, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. – 5:45 p.m.

Screenings will be held at the Genesee County Health Department, 324 S. Saginaw St., Suite 4 (4^th floor), Flint, MI 48502.  Appointments are encouraged, although walk-ins will be accommodated based on availability.
