PLOT:
James and the Giant Peach, based on the novel by Roald Dahl, tells the story of how James Trotter and his giant insect friends came to reside in the pit of a giant peach in Central Park! A class of students ends their tour of New York City with a visit to Central Park, where they, their teacher, and their tour guide get pulled into a re-enactment of the tale of the Giant Peach! Filled with rhymes, whimsy, and adventure, James and the Giant Peach at FCP is going to be an interactive storytime for the ages!

WHAT TO PREPARE:
Please prepare a 60-90 second monologue that tells a story OR prepare a 60-90 second dramatic read of a children’s book (you can have the children’s book on hand!).

Additionally, please prepare 30-60 seconds of a special skill/talent to show us! This can be almost anything! Do you have a fun impression? Do you play an instrument? Can you juggle? Do you speed stack or have a super awesome joke that always makes people laugh? As long as it is appropriate for all audiences, we want to see it! Have fun with it!

Following the prepared auditions, we will do “warm” reads of scenes from the show with groups.

Auditionees of all ages are welcome!

To allow everyone an equal amount of time please refrain from attending both audition days. Parents of auditionees under 18 are encouraged to attend.

CHARACTERS:
James: The hero of our story, a young boy who rises from a troubling life to become a great leader to his insect friends. Acts as one of the narrators of the story.

Old Green Grasshopper: A wise violinist who helps James narrate the tale of the Giant Peach. Patient, friendly, courteous and kind. We would love to see someone play the violin for this part if possible!

Ladybird*: A spunky but level-headed fashionista. She is humble, helpful, and sharp.

Centipede*: Cheeky, charismatic, and self-assured “business tycoon”. Confident just to the point of being a little cocky.

Earthworm*: A downtrodden, Eeyore-like pessimist who is blind. His self-esteem is highly boosted by James through the show.

Miss Spider: Sharp and seemingly sinister but ultimately kind, her thread-spinning talent saves the day.

Tour Guide/Aunt Sponge*: Leading the charge, the Tour Guide welcomes us into the setting and encourages interaction. They become Aunt Sponge in the telling of the tale, as well as a few other featured roles.

Teacher/Aunt Spiker*: Much to their students’ delight, the Teacher of the class becomes part of the storytelling too, taking on the role of Aunt Spiker as well as a few other featured roles.

Student Ensemble*: A class of students, excited to hear about the tale of the Giant Peach and meet James and his insect friends. They get pulled into the storytelling as well, becoming ocean waves, sharks, tourists, and more!

*All characters will have actions and small parts outside their lines, but the starred characters indicate that these characters will have spoken parts outside of just their main character.
