FIA Free Hot Shop Demos

The Flint Institute of Arts Museum + Art School invites the community to experience the art of glassmaking through free weekend demonstrations in its professional Hot Shop, made possible through generous local sponsorships.

Genessee County Applebee’s Grill + Bar restaurants (Miller Apple LP) sponsor demonstrations every Saturday from 11am to 4pm, while Overdrive Automation sponsors Sunday demos from 1pm to 4pm. These free public programs offer visitors an entertaining, up-close look at the remarkable skill and creativity involved in transforming molten glass into functional objects and sculptural works.

Beyond weekend demonstrations, the FIA Art School offers glass classes and workshops throughout the year, covering hot glass and glassblowing, kilnforming and flat glass, and flameworking. Courses range from introductory make-and-take activities to comprehensive classes led by professional glass artists from the FIA Hot Shop, welcoming participants of all skill levels.

Thanks to the Genesee County Arts, Education and Culture Enrichment Millage, free admission to the museum is available to county residents seven days a week. The museum also offers free admission for all visitors with Free Saturdays presented by Huntington Bank.
