Community Lecture: Race, Redlining & Razing – Housing Discrimination and the Racial Wealth Gap

February 12 @ 5:30 pm

Most of white wealth in the US can be traced to home ownership through the rise of the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) and the institution of the 30-year mortgage. This boon to middle class wealth was subsidized by all tax-payers regardless of race while the benefits were exclusively enjoyed by white America.

Today, the same urban centers that saw economic drain during the era of white flight are now being gentrified. Explore how the past lives in the present as long as we the people occupy place. Explore the implications of school systems, public safety, environmental justice, and a host of other issues directly tied to where we live and how we got there in this special presentation by Delma Jackason III in recognition of Black History Month.
