Frequently Asked Questions
What is your coverage area?
Anything within the Flint city limits. We loosely define that, though. For example, in our high school sports coverage, we only cover schools that reside within the city (Flint Southwestern, Powers Catholic, International Academy of Flint, New Standard Academy, and Michigan School for the Deaf). However, as anyone who follows local sports knows, many suburban school districts have students who reside in the city of Flint. So, essentially, we are flexible. As long as there’s a Flint angle or connection in a story, we will usually cover it.
How do you handle corrections?
The nice thing about an online publication is that it is easy to fix typos. However, journalistically, we also believe there is a responsibility to let readers know when information in a story has been updated or changed. For our purposes, if the mistake is minor (think: a misspelled word, or incorrect punctuation mark), we just fix it. If the mistake is something bigger that changes context or meaning of a story when it’s corrected, we acknowledge that with an editor’s note in the story. There’s an example of what that looks like at the end of this story. If you notice a mistake in one of our stories, please email team@flintdaily.news.
How often do you publish?
In order to live up to the name of the publication, our goal is to publish something about Flint … well … daily. We don’t always hit that goal, but we do like to give people a reason to check the site regularly, so we post as often as we can. Our weekly newsletter is published and sent out to recipients who have signed up on Tuesdays.
Can I write for you?
We would love to add contributors and new voices to Flint. Daily. The only real barrier to that at the moment is an inability to pay — we don’t believe in asking creative people to work for free. We are working on that, getting ready to roll out some advertising and sponsorship opportunities that will hopefully give us a modest freelance budget in early 2026. Stay tuned!
We also do accept op-eds on Flint-related topics. If you’d be interested in writing one, send your idea to team@flintdaily.news.
If you launched in 2025, how come there are older stories from years ago on your site?
The site’s founders, Patrick Hayes and Jen Veloso, have written for numerous publications in Flint in their careers. Most standard freelance agreements allow writers to retain rights to their work after it is initially published by the publication. So, in order to preserve some of our past work, we have added it to the Flint. Daily. archives. In each instance, there is a line at the bottom of those stories to note where it was originally published. Here is an example.
