Former Flint City AFC Standout Signs Professional Contract

Olivia Thomas, who helped the Flint City AFC women’s soccer team win a USL W League division title in 2023, signed her first professional contract with Denver Summit FC of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).

Thomas, a forward, played college soccer at the University of North Carolina. She led the Tar Heels to — whose 22 national championships are the most in NCAA women’s soccer history — to a title in 2024. She had many career highlights in college, including earning All-America Third Team, All-Atlantic Region Second Team, and All-ACC First Team honors in 2025. She was the College Cup Most Outstanding Player in North Carolina’s championship season in 2024.

The Denver Summit FC are an expansion team entering their first season competing in the NWSL. Thomas, a forward originally from Grosse Pointe, signed with the team through 2028.

“I’m incredibly grateful for my time at UNC and excited for this next chapter with Denver Summit FC,” Thomas said in a news release. “The opportunity to begin my professional career with a new club, alongside such an ambitious vision, is something I’m really looking forward to. I’m ready to keep growing and competing at the highest level.”

Thomas played for Flint City AFC after her freshman season at North Carolina. Flint City is pre-professional women’s soccer club competing in the national league United Women’s Soccer (UWS). The club is partnered with the Flint City Bucks and plays home games at Atwood Stadium. AFC focuses on player development and preparing young athletes for college and professional careers.
