SUMMARY:Third Annual Rx Kids Flint Baby Parade
DESCRIPTION:Rx Kids Flint is hosting its third annual Baby Parade from 3-6 p.m. on Friday\, July 17\, on the Applewood Campus in the Flint Cultural Center. The event will celebrate the continued impact of Rx Kids on Flint families and babies. \nThe event will include family-friendly games and activities\, ice cream from the Michigan State University Dairy Store\, music\, short remarks from Rx Kids leadership and  local dignitaries\, and culminate with a parade through the beautiful Applewood grounds – all to celebrate Flint babies\, moms\, and families. There will even be a special appearance by Michigan State’s beloved Sparty mascot! \nIn 1918\, the United States government recognized ‘Children’s Year\,’ an effort to “save 100\,000 babies” by addressing issues that impact child welfare\, including a lack of data on maternal and child health\, the effects of poverty on health\, lack of educational resources\, and a lack of safe spaces for children to play. \nA visual way that advocates for child and maternal health raised awareness of these issues across the country was by hosting “baby parades\,” which celebrated and showcased the lives and activities of healthy kids in their communities. \nJust a little over a century later\, Rx Kids was launched in January 2024 to address many of the same issues the Children’s Year hoped to bring awareness to.
