SUMMARY:A Place to Land: Second Annual 50th Birthday Celebration for Ananich Legacy Foundation
DESCRIPTION:The Ananich Legacy Foundation will host A Place to Land: The Second Annual 50th Birthday Celebration on Friday\, October 23\, 2026\, at 6:00 p.m. at the Flint Farmers’ Market\, bringing the community together for an evening of celebration\, connection and giving back. \nWhat began last year as a creative way to turn a milestone birthday into an opportunity to support the community is becoming an annual tradition. Each year\, the Ananich Legacy Foundation will use the celebration to shine a light on an important community need and raise resources for local organizations doing the work every day. This year\, A Place to Land will focus on homelessness and housing instability\, with proceeds benefiting My Brother’s Keeper and Shelter of Flint. \n“Last year\, we came together to help put food on the table. This year\, we want to help make sure more of our neighbors have a safe and warm place to land\,” said Andrea Ananich\,  Ananich Legacy Foundation board member. “Whether it’s a warm place to sleep\, support during a difficult season or simply knowing your community hasn’t forgotten you\, everyone deserves dignity\, safety and hope.” \nThe evening will include food\, drinks\, community fellowship and opportunities to support this year’s beneficiary organizations through ticket purchases and sponsorships. Guests are also encouraged to share the warmth by bringing a new winter item such as socks\,  hats\, gloves\, mittens\, scarves\, warm socks or blankets. Guests who donate a new winter warmth item will receive one additional drink ticket at the event. \nThrough events like A Place to Land\, the Ananich Legacy Foundation works to bring people and resources together in support of organizations creating meaningful impact throughout the Flint community. \n“ALF doesn’t have to duplicate the incredible work already happening in our community\,” Ananich added. “Sometimes our role is simply to bring people together\, shine a light on organizations doing important work and help put more resources behind them.” \nEVENT DETAILS: A Place to Land: The Second Annual 50th Birthday Celebration\nFriday\, October 23\, 2026\n6:00 p.m.\nFlint Farmers’ Market; Ramsdell Room\n300 E. SUMMARY:Dead Man's Cell Phone by UM-Flint Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Dead Man’s Cellphoneby Sarah Ruhldirected by William Irwin\nAn incessantly ringing cell phone in a quiet café. A stranger at the next table who has had enough. And a dead man – with a lot of loose ends. So begins Dead Man’s Cell Phone\, a wildly imaginative new comedy by MacArthur “Genius” Grant recipient and Pulitzer Prize finalist Sarah Ruhl. A work about how we memorialize the dead – and how that remembering changes us – it is the odyssey of a woman forced to confront her own assumptions about morality\, redemption\, and the need to connect in a technologically obsessed world.\nShow Dates:Fri Oct 16 7:30pmSat Oct 17 7:30pmSun Oct 18 2pmFri Oct 23 7:30pmSat Oct 24 7:30pmSun Oct 25 2pm\nUM-Flint Theatre – 327 E Kearsley StTickets available at:https://tickets.thefim.org/deadmanscellphone

SUMMARY:Help Plant Native Trees in Pierce Park
DESCRIPTION:This Saturday\, 10-24-26\, 10 am\n\n\nMeet at Pierce Park\, 2302 Brookside\, in the pavilion parking lot.\n\n\n\n\n\nHelp us welcome our newest neighborhood residents: Shagbark Hickory\, Alternate Leaf Dogwood\, Native Red Mulberry\, Sassafras\, Witch Hazel\, White Birch\, Pussywillow and Musclewood!\n\n\n\n\n\nVolunteers are needed to plant native trees\, assemble tree tubes and install tree tubes.\n\n\nPlease bring gloves and wear boots or shoes.\n\n\nWe’ll be working in various locations in the park\n\n\n\n\n\nFor the past couple of weeks we have been scouting the best places to plant the trees according to each species’ preference. We have a variety of jobs for volunteers:\n\n\n\n\n\nPlanting: We use a special tree planting-tool called a dibble.\n\n\nCoco rings: Each little tree is protected from encroaching grass and weeds with a coco ring\, which also holds moisture in the tree tube.\n\n\nTubing: We assemble and install tree tubes to protect the young trees from deer and rabbits. The tree tubes also act as mini-greenhouses to help the young plants thrive.\n\n\nStaking: We secure tree tubes with tree stakes.\n\n\n\n\n\nWe will plant about 175 trees and it should take 2-3 hours.\n\n\nWe’d love for you to join us in growing an urban forest.
